a little about me
I started making a film when my liver started to fail at the age of 23. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease when I was 8, and it seemed like its natural progression had finally taken a toll on my body. So I quit my job as an investigative journalist in Washington, D.C. to seek a transplant in Michigan. It was only instinctive to try to document this process.
It turns out my liver was failing because of an addiction problem I hadn't come to terms with yet — and that everyone around me missed. I ended up taking a sliver of my life and was able to shed light on a cultural narrative that people don’t often explore or confront. This film will be a part of a national education campaign about the dangers of excessive alcohol use. Additionally, it will be available to members of an online sobriety school. Honestly, I made Live or Failure mostly to help myself. And now that it exists, I hope it'll help someone else. If you’d like to set up a screening and a Q+A with the director (that’s me), let me know. |
